Technical Writer

Are you a detail-oriented individual with a passion for writing and a desire to develop your technical communication skills? Serco-NA is seeking a Junior Technical Writer to support the creation of clear and concise documentation.

This position requires maintaining an active DoD security clearance and is contingent upon contract award.

In this entry-level role, you will work under close supervision to develop and explain technical information, policies, and practices. This position is ideal for candidates with strong writing skills and a desire to grow in the field of technical writing.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Assist in creating and editing technical documents such as user manuals, guides, and system documentation under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather and understand the necessary information required to produce accurate and clear documentation.
  • Explain facts, policies, and practices related to the technical area, ensuring that documents are understandable for the intended audience.
  • Follow established technical writing standards and templates to ensure consistency and clarity in documentation.
  • Review, revise, and update existing documents to ensure accuracy and relevance as per changes in systems, processes, or policies.
  • Work closely with supervisors and more experienced technical writers to develop your skills and gain a deeper understanding of technical communication.
  • Assist in proofreading and quality-checking documents to ensure they meet organizational and technical standards.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • 2 years or more of experience in technical writing or a related field. No prior experience required, though internships or coursework in technical writing are a plus.
  • An Associate’s Degree in technical writing, English, communications, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • An active DoD Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Broad technical job knowledge, typically obtained through advanced education, with the ability to learn and apply new concepts quickly.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work closely with supervisors and teammates in a collaborative environment, receiving feedback and guidance to improve work quality.
  • Ability to handle basic, non-complex problems and issues related to technical documentation, with guidance from more experienced team members.
  • 10% travel is required

Additional Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of documentation tools and software, such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or other word processing tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in producing and editing technical documentation.
  • A genuine interest in technical writing and a desire to grow and develop your skills in the field.

In compliance with local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $66,558.60 to $110,931; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills
