We are hiring a Senior Documentation Manager for the AWS Infrastructure Support (AIS) services. This team plays a critical role in our customers’ success by providing clear, concise, accurate content tailored to the needs of our customers.
As a Senior Documentation Manager, you will manage a team of technical writers who develop our public-facing technical documentation for the AWS AIS services on https://docs.aws.amazon.com. You will be responsible for developing and growing the writers on your team. You will also work closely with engineering teams and other groups to define team deliverables, priorities and processes, and to collaborate on shared goals and efforts. You will help set the standard for excellence for our documentation, ensuring that we deliver technically accurate, well-written, simple, and customer-focused documentation. You may also contribute to the writing and editing of the documentation from time to time.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of Technical Writers.
- Help shape and deliver content strategies that drive continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with service team members.
- Define writing projects and set team and shared goals.
- Work with writers to improve writing quality and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Track, analyze, and report on content performance against customer goals using key metrics.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in editorial, content strategy, technical writing, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience successfully leading large editorial and content teams
- Proven experience with rapid, iterative design and development processes
- Experience leading projects in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team
- Fluency in best practices for multi-platform content strategy, information architecture, and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and content publishing
- Bachelor’s, or equivalent degree, in Technical Writing, Journalism, Communications, Computer Science, HCI, or related field; equivalent professional or military experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud computing/web services or related areas
- Experience managing the full content lifecycle from initial strategy to delivery, localization, and long-term support
- Passion for the role of writer within an organization and the ability to hire, develop and mentor top talent
- Strong bias for action including the ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Possess excellent communication, presentation, storytelling, interpersonal, and analytical skills
- Be willing to roll up your sleeves to meet business and product deliverables

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $215,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
