The Role
As a Senior Technical Writer on the Specification Creation team, you will collaborate closely with representatives from member organizations across the global technology industry to write, edit, and release the specifications and other content deliverables that define the next generation of Bluetooth wireless technology. With an emphasis on upstream engagement in the technology development process, you will apply technical communication best practices to the delivery of Bluetooth specifications. Your role will include direct engagement with subject matter experts to define the ideal content strategy and information architecture for a given Bluetooth feature area, including writing informative or conceptual content that developers will use to create their Bluetooth-enabled products.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Plan, write, and release content in support of new Bluetooth wireless technology features.
- Edit and standardize content drafted by SME contributors.
- Develop and apply expertise in Bluetooth technology when writing content and counsel Working Groups on writing best practices.
- Participate in interviewing candidates for open positions, and supervise contract staff as needed.
- Mentor and provide direction to others.
- Consult leadership and executive staff regarding Specification Creation projects and initiatives.
- Lead planning, scheduling, and managing of content deliverables.
- Be a primary writer for a working group and act as the key liaison with the working group members.
- Define and apply content strategy and information architecture best practices to the planning, design, and delivery of specifications in assigned area of responsibility.
- Lead or contribute to the development of the Bluetooth Drafting Guidelines and standardization of specifications and other Bluetooth SIG content.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams and Bluetooth SIG leadership.
- Collaborate extensively and build efficient consensus with external teams, groups, and industry committees.
- Lead or contribute to significant improvements in Bluetooth SIG processes for specification development across the broader organization.
- 10-15% travel (including international travel)
Skills And Requirements
- 8+ years’ experience producing technical content for a technical audience.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Technical Communication, Journalism, English, or equivalent technical experience
- Expert knowledge in writing best practices.
- Stellar writing and editing skills with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
- 3-5 years’ experience working in a structured and/or component content management environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interview candidates for staff positions and supervise contract staff.
- Proven track record of initiating, leading, managing, and completing complex projects with high quality related to supporting critical goals for the organization.
- Passion for technology.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to interact effectively in an international business environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy for customer.
- 5+ years’ experience working in a globally distributed organization.
- 5+ years’ experience collaborating with internal and external teams/groups in Agile/Scrum environment.
- Accountable team player and leader who collaborates effectively in a team environment.
