As a Technical Writer for Octo, you’ll support a project for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Technical Writer is responsible for assisting in the design and development of written deliverables. They will write, edit, and proofread contract deliverables of various size, scope, and content targeting a variety of audiences. You will support the team in editing narrative and graphic products to identify and correct grammatical formatting and logic errors and to identify logical inconsistencies. The Technical Writer will work with the team to review documents, compile inputs/corrections, resolve incompatible comments, and provide final publishable documentation.

Program Mission…
This program within the Department of Veterans Affairs will provide a cross-functional team capable of developing data products for emergent enterprise requirements by leveraging the toolset available on the Summit Data Platform. This team will provide responsive support for emerging data and analytics needs that originate from executive leadership and VA offices across the enterprise. These data integration and data insights will help solve emergent challenges for the Department in response to changing laws, regulations and needs for reporting to external entities, and ultimately will provide better support to the veterans.
Skills & Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Written and verbal communications to cover a wide variety of technical and administrative topics.
- Writes/edits reports, information and training materials, presentations, and other communications as requested.
- Editing, standardizing, and/or updating support of material prepared by other writers, in compliance with Associated Press (AP) and VA Public Affairs Guidelines.
- Template creation support.
- Editing and formatting reports, charts, tables, and presentations.
- Support to create complex workflow diagrams, process maps, and process models.
- Support to lead process owners in discussions to develop documentation.
Requirements:
- Strong customer service centered and the ability to collaborate within a cross-functional team.
- Ability to research and resolve problems efficiently and accurately.
- Excellent communications and presentation skills.
- Ability to interact professionally and productively with senior government officials.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
- Must be a self-starter, proactive.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and MS Project.
Desired:
- Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal organizations.
- Experience with government contracting firms supporting the Federal government.
- Experience with JIRA, SharePoint, Confluence.
- Experience within an Agile (Scrum and/or Kanban), SAFe, or alike project management and/or software development environment(s).
- Experience with government contracting firms supporting the Federal government.
Years of experience: At least 5-8 years of experience in technical writing or communications. Preferably including Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal experience.
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in communications, business or other related technical field OR equivalent work experience.
Location: Fully Remote.
Clearance: Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
