Position Description

ERT is seeking a Technical Writer to support customers at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF). Will work in a government satellite ground systems environment to maintain technical, management, and contract-related documentation on a high-volume, deadline-driven team. Maintains familiarity with environmental satellite ground systems and related science and engineering terms. Will work with systems personnel, scientists, and engineers to create, update, and edit technical documents including standard operating procedures, documents, diagrams, configuration files, build forms, network diagrams, operational event logs, data flow diagrams, computer room rack layouts, operations checklists, program descriptions, system descriptions, interface control documents, IT security artifacts, memoranda, maintenance manuals, contractual documentation, and technical data packages. Reviews and comments on work product of other writers, in coordination with the quality assurance manager.

Additional duties include:

  • Creates and edits technical plans, manuals, guides, and other documents. Develops and edits work/process flow diagrams, systems diagrams, charts, tables, graphics, etc.
  • Follows government guidelines for documentation, document configuration management, and coordination processes.
  • Maintains documents with the correct government or contract markings.
  • Works individually and on technical teams with scientists, software engineers, systems engineers, hardware specialists, helpdesk specialists, managers, administrators, quality assurance specialists, risk/configuration managers, and others.
  • Assists in maintaining document file systems, creates new file systems/subsystems, and manages document archives.
  • Follows government guidelines on using, managing, and administering document libraries on SharePoint, Google Drive, and other file management systems.
  • Proactively collaborates with documentation repository development teams to facilitate improvements to repositories and user experience.
  • Provides meeting management services including scheduling meetings; creating meeting agendas; documenting meeting minutes; tracking action items; distributing agendas, schedules, and minutes, and posting any documentation to the customer-designated location.
  • Follows Quality Assurance Plan as required for all technical writing products and services. Provides contract metrics documentation and reporting weekly and monthly to the quality assurance manager for team reporting to the government.
  • Supports data call requests by maintaining a data call log, gathering required data, assembling data as instructed, and providing the report on time.

Required Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience as a senior technical writer or similar role.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google tools (Mail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat), and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must maintain expert skills and quickly learn new features and use them to improve efficiency and document/output quality.

Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.

Education
BS/BA in related discipline, or equivalent.
